BUILDING DREAMS AND LIFTING HEARTS

Sherry's Story

Sherry is a native Idahoan who grew up in and out of homelessness along the Boise River. As a girl, she spent many years in state care and experienced time in the juvenile and adult correctional system. As an adult, she is the mother of seven who worked multiple jobs to make ends meet. Sherry’s life experiences left her feeling unsure of herself, lacking self-esteem, and not knowing where to go next or what she had to offer. Once again struggling to keep a roof over her family’s head, Sherry was referred to Create Common Good.

Sherry joined the CCG program in October of 2015. She excelled in her training and portrayed a quiet, yet strong leadership style. As her knowledge in foodservice grew, so did her confidence. Sherry was empowered with the resources she needed to take control and gain direction in her life. Our program taught her the skills she needed to obtain her ideal job – the one job that could support her family and allow her to have the time to spend with those she loved.

It wasn’t long after graduating CCG’s program that Sherry joined our family as a food production team employee. Over the past three years the hard-work, tenacity and leadership Sherry has exhibited led to her promotion to Production Lead in April of 2017 and as of September 2017, Sherry now runs our entire food operation as our Production Manager!

“[Coming to CCG] was not just about finding a job, but about creating a new way of life. I am so truly blessed and honored to be where I am today.”
— Sherry Batt, CCG Production Manager
