Boise Weekly: Healthy Snack Program

In an effort to secure good nutrition for Idaho's most vulnerable citizens,Create Common Good and the St. Luke's Health System are teaming up to provide the makings for healthier snacks for children at secure domestic violence shelters managed by theWomen's and Children's Alliance.
Under the arrangement, CCG will be providing 125 snacks each week for children, most of whom are coping with the impact of abuse, according to the WCA. The program is possible through a Community Health Improvement Fund grant from St. Luke's. Weekly deliveries will include everything from apples, avocados and whole wheat bagels to blueberries and yogurt.
In 2014, the WCA says it provided more than 9,500 "safe bed nights" to 176 women and children.
