Create Common Good – The Recipe for Change

Randy Perkins / Jul 16th, 2015

What if someone told you that Albertsons now offers fresh, ready-made meals that not only taste great, but also contain Albertsons ingredients? What if they also told you that proceeds from each meal went to help support the local community? Would you raise an eyebrow at this unlikely scenario, questioning how it could even be possible?

Albertsons and Create Common Good have made it possible!

Create Common Good is a local non-profit organization that provides foodservice job training and job placement assistance to anyone with barriers to employment. These opportunities for growth are provided to refugees, homeless, individuals exiting prison or substance abuse programs, women rebuilding their lives after domestic violence, and others struggling with barriers to employment. Each of these individuals are provided with the tools to help develop both life skills and job skills through detailed training programs until they are fully prepared to transition into the workplace. In fact, Create Common Good trainees have already completed a combined total of 100,048 hours to date.

Create Common Good was created to “help those in need land on their feet, discover their potential and enrich their communities.” Let’s take Awot for instance. Awot is a 29-year-old refugee from Eritrea who was on the verge of homelessness before finding Create Common Good. Awot has since graduated from the program, and is now a homeowner, married with children, and runs his own taxi business.
